Home School Community Liaison

● The Home School Community Liaison scheme aims to support students through creating a partnership between parents, teachers and community agencies. This partnership produces a shared sense of purpose in meeting the student’s needs.

● The scheme acknowledges the central role that the parent/guardian plays in the education of the student. When the complementary skills of parent, teacher and community are at work, the student will grow and flourish in the learning environment.

● The Department of Education and Science is committed to the involvement of parents through the provision of a Home School Community Liaison (HSCL) Coordinator in Presentation Secondary School, Ballyphehane.

● The HSCL Coordinator reaches out beyond the school gates to the homes and communities from which our students come.

● The Coordinator can help parents to understand what happens in the school, what facilities and supports are available and the school’s procedures.

● The Coordinator supports parents through home visits, classes and through the involvement with agencies who support the learning process in the community.

● The HSCL Coordinator works closely with all the support services in the school to create the best possible learning environment for the student.

● The Coordinator is Barry O’Shea and he would be delighted to hear from parents on 086-750 9837 or you can contact him by email at bos@presballyphehane.com

Parents’ Classes

● At Presentation Secondary School, Ballyphehane we have understood for a long time that the more engaged the parent is with the educational system/school the better the outcome for the child.

● Classes allow parents to engage with the school and so support their child’s learning in a fun way.

● Over the years the classes offered have varied from pottery to piloxing and mindfulness to maths. For many parents these classes have become an important hobby, providing a creative outlet or a means to become physically fit.

● For some parents these classes have provided an avenue to a new career with them returning to part-time or full-time education.

● Most classes are held in our dedicated parents’ room.
